ABOUT
For many years I had "pottery" and "ballroom dancing" on my list of things to try. In August of 2011, I finally found myself in a pottery class and that's when my passion for clay began. It has been an endlessly fascinating journey of discovery and inspiration. I still haven't stepped into a ballroom dance class, but of course it's still on my list of things to try.

I have found much inspiration from  paging through magazines and books, hours of internet searches, Youtube views and following  many ceramic artists who share their work and process on Instagram. I have had the privilege of taking workshops with such masters as Simon Leach,  Steven Hill and Deb Lecce, a nd have found the time shared with them has dramatically informed my work. I am particulary drawn to the work of Lucy Rie and naively thought I could hop online and purchase one of her works. It's  still a dream of mine to own one of her works, but as they sell for thousands of dollars, I will have to save up.  In the meantime, it has been tremendously gratifying and enlightening trying to recreate pottery in the style of Lucy Rie, Simon Leach, Deb Lecce and others while discovering my own artistic voice.

My name is Michael Cole

What's in a name?
MasterCraft Ceramics? I am by no means a "Master" at ceramics, but I hope to continue trying to master as many aspects of ceramics and pottery as I can. MasterCraft happens to be the name of my preferred waterski boat and it has the added benefit of matching my initials.
